Out of Africa – Wells for Zoe
Our Managing Director, James Doyle along with his wife Lily, is planning a trip of a lifetime to Africa this summer which will incorporate 3 weeks voluntary work in Malawi and afterwards a holiday in Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. James worked with Deloitte in Malawi 30 years ago and is looking forward to revisiting the country and reconnecting with some old friends. Malawi , although one of the poorest countries in the world , is known as the Warm Heart of Africa and the people are very friendly and welcoming. Lily worked as a midwife in Zimbabwe at the same time and they are planning a return to Mutare to visit the clinics where Lily worked previously.
The project where they will volunteer in Mzuzu in Northern Malawi is called Wells for Zoe – Water for Life.
Wells for Zoe is a voluntary organisation, founded in 2005 and working mainly in Northern Malawi, focused on enabling the rural poor to access clean, safe, drinking water. Working with women’s self-help clusters, a package including preschool, Girl Child and adult education, and conservation farming, this bottom-up approach has a sustainable and life changing impact on communities. Check out www.wellsforzoe.org . It remains to be seen what exactly Jame and Lily will be doing but they will be making their expertise and hands available.
We hope to report back from their trip in a future blog, in the meantime, Bon Voyage!
